Currently, in development, Ramble is a brand encompassing a range of products designed for your next bike-packing adventure. It all began with the design for a Nalgene water bottle mount but has grown to include designs for several cargo cages and mounting solutions. Design and prototyping of the products is ongoing as is brand and logo development. This page will be updated as appropriate, check back soon to see the latest progress.
Products
Nalgene Cage
To help increase water carrying capacity this product is designed to mount a 1L Nalgene to the frame or fork.
Small Cargo Rack
This cargo rack is designed to mount a 5L drybag.
Large Cargo Rack
This cargo rack is designed to mount a 8L drybag.
Handlebar Rack
This cargo rack and mounting hardware are designed to attach to the handlebars of most bikes. Allows for the carrying of up to a 15L dry bag.
Tube Mounts
Designed to add an M5 threaded mount to a frame tube or suspension fork. Two designs and multiple configurations, accommodate various tube types.
Product Development
Concept
The Ramble line of products grew from the initial Nalgene cage to include a family of products that share a similar design language and fulfill a range of needs for bike packing/touring.
Design
Each product is envisioned as an improvement over existing products on the market combining a refined design with quality construction and a user need-driven form and feature set.
Prototype
In-house prototyping with 3D printing has allowed for same-day evaluation of design decisions and testing of multiple materials.
Test
Shipping products that fail while out in the backcountry isn’t an option. Multiple rounds of product testing have helped reveal usability pain points and structural deficiencies.
Iterate
Each product has evolved through multiple iterations. Materials, structural designs, sizes, and attachment options have all been refined to achieve the best product possible.
Branding
In preparation for the potential launch of these products, some brand/logo exploration has been done. Design elements from bike packing equipment, patches, woodblock prints, and topographic maps were all drawn on for inspiration when exploring potential designs.
The Future
The future of Ramble is somewhat unknown at this time. The initial intent was to sell 3D-printed versions of the Nalgene Cage in addition to some other small products. Testing has revealed that the durability of these products when FDM printed may not be up to the desired quality and prints of the larger products have significant production time. An SLS-printed Nylon 11 prototype of the Nalgene Cage has been evaluated and is suitably strong but the production cost is high and SLS versions of the larger products are very expensive and non-competitive with existing products. All parts have been designed with the possibility of being adapted for injection molding in the future but moving forward with that is not viable at this time.
While purchasable products may not launch soon the design and development of the products and branding will continue to move forward and updates will make their way to this page.
If any individual is significantly interested in these designs I may be able to work with you to produce one-off products or develop custom solutions for your bike packing setup. To start that discussion reach out to me via email at: t.brenner.design@gmail.com
